Few weeks ago, news emerged about two economic events in America. First was the news regarding Elon Musk’s net worth, and second was the data on workers’ income released by the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. These two news reports have once again exposed the contradiction and the monstrosity of capitalist society.<\/p>\n

On the very day the shares of Elon Musk’s SpaceX went on public sale on the NASDAQ stock exchange, his net worth surged by approximately 13.8 lakh crores, equivalent to one trillion dollars (approximately 95 lakh crores rupees).<\/p>\n

Ever since this update, in an attempt to demonstrate this humongous value to the people ,bourgeois news outlets have resorted to reporting on this using various analogies.<\/p>\n

One news article reports that if one were to stack $100 notes worth one trillion dollars, the height of the resulting pile can extend to a whopping 679 miles.<\/p>\n

Another outlet states that Jalen Brunson, a wealthy American basketball player earning $39 million a year, would need to play an additional 25,000 games to reach the heights of Elon Musk’s financial worth.<\/p>\n

The Dinamani magazine, on one hand, boasts of Musk’s success as a trillionaire, and expresses great admiration for having set a monumental goal for every Indian youth to aspire to, illustrating it as a huge achievement that the entire world should take pride in.<\/p>\n

According to a study by French economist Gabriel Zucman, the net asset value of a few Americans in the 19th century was equivalent to 3% of the US economic output. However, now, the combined asset value of approximately 20 wealthy Americans amounts to 12% of the country’s economic output.<\/p>\n

Over 99% of people living in the US are living in a constant state of economic crisis. The net worth of Elon Musk is 50 lakh times larger than that of an average American family, as per a recent article from The New York Times.<\/p>\n

Plato, the Greek philosopher who lived in the 4th century B.C, to ease the economic inequalities that persisted in that time, stated that if an individual earns more than four times the wealth of other citizens, he must contribute his surplus income as a donation for people’s welfare. Only then, the republic would flourish, He wrote in the book “Laws”.<\/p>\n

It goes without saying that the idea and the hypothetical law prophesied by Plato to address the fourfold economic disparity prevailing in the 4th century BC cannot be applied to today’s capitalist society.<\/p>\n

But, it is in the United States of America, proudly deemed the \u2018headquarters\u2019 of capitalism and where capitalist growth has been prominent in the last 300 years, that a five-million-fold economic disparity exists.<\/p>\n

The “pride” and “achievement” of Elon Musk being a trillionaire rest upon the shoulders of the American people. It is by draining their income that capitalists like Elon Musk strut about as mega-crorepathis and multi-millionaires.<\/p>\n

Following the war waged by American imperialists on Iran, the rising prices of essential commodities like groceries and fuel have severely affected the daily lives of American working people. American workers claim that the wage increases granted over the past two years have yielded little to no benefit due to the current inflation trends.<\/p>\n

The fuel prices in the US have increased by 23.5% compared to last year. In the month of May alone, the price of all products increased by 0.5%.<\/p>\n

Due to the growing costs of fuel, American people prefer purchasing goods that are close to their homes. Even the families who yield over one lakh dollars of income per year prefer cheap products, states a report by Dollar General.<\/p>\n

The American working class, which has been struggling without permanent employment since the COVID era, is now losing countless job opportunities due to the advent of AI technology. These tech corporate industries not only seize the jobs of American people, but also gamble their pensions in the stock market. The US government has passed laws to ensure this procedure, as AI-related stocks alone account for half of the shares in the US Stock Market.<\/p>\n

As the data centers that power AI require huge amounts of electricity, the cost of electric power reflects a visible spike of 6% as compared to the previous year. Considering the expansion of artificial intelligence, the cost of computers has also increased.<\/p>\n

In order to decrease the taxes on big corporations, the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA) was introduced after the presidential inauguration of Donald Trump. The health subsidies usually granted to American citizens have been reduced to clear the financial burden caused by this bill. As a result, Americans now spend an additional $1200 per year on healthcare.<\/p>\n

A study conducted by the economic experts of California University estimates that America’s 400 wealthiest individuals pay a smaller share of their income in taxes than the average American working woman.<\/p>\n

A report by ProPublica has calculated that Elon Musk’s net asset value has increased by 13.9 billion dollars between 2014 and 2018. However, he accounted for an income of only $1.52 billion and paid just $455 million in taxes.<\/p>\n

American workers have staged a protest and exposed the fact that individuals like Elon Musk have become trillionaires only by exploiting the American working class. “Elon Musk is stealing your pension and retirement,” chanted the workers participating in the protest, standing outside of the Manhattan headquarters of JPMorgan Chase, one of the banks involved with SpaceX’s public shares.<\/p>\n

As early as the 19th century, Marx’s “Capital” revealed the truth that the profits of capitalists are guaranteed only by arranging the plunder of small-scale producers, including workers and farmers.<\/p>\n
